Gully formation is not a problem that persists exclusively in arid and semi-arid environments; they have also been found to appear at locations characterised by steep slopes, and in particular, under geological and soil conditions of temperate regions. Gullies, if left unaddressed, may become prevalent across landscapes, causing damage to infrastructures by facilitating the transport of undesired mudflows and rock materials to urbanised areas. Predictive maps can provide assistance for effective land use planning and the mitigation of risk factors.
