Beak participates in „mineclosure 2018“ conference in Leipzig
Short course and presentation about application of machine learning methods for geological process modeling

31st August 2018, Leipzig (DEU)

The internationally renowned conference "mineclosure 2018" will take place for the first time in Germany from 3rd to 7th September 2018 in Leipzig (KUBUS Leipzig, Permoserstraße 15) and is organized by the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg, Institute for Mining and Mining Engineering, in cooperation with the University of Western Australia and the Australian Center for Geomechanics (ACG). Overall, the organizers expect about 250 participants from 40 countries of all continents.

In the frame of the short course "advangeo®: Artificial neural networks for analyzing and predicting geological and geotechnical processes – background, software and application examples", Ms. Hielscher and Ms. Schipek will review the methods of machine learning and introduce the advangeo® Prediction Software developed by Beak Consultants GmbH. The course will cover case studies about waste pile stability analysis, slope instability risk analysis and mineral predictive mapping. The short course, which will be held in English, will take place on Monday, 3rd September 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in Room SR 219.

At 4:50 p.m. on 4th September 2018, Beak will give an oral presentation in Room 1CD about "advangeo® - Machine learning for geological process modeling: background, software, application cases". Ms. Schipek will present the results of the modeling carried out in various projects with the advangeo® Prediction Software, among others temporal and spatial prediction of waste pile stability in lignite mining areas, the determination of landslide potential along infrastructure elements, and the qualitative and quantitative 3D prediction of mineral deposits.

The before-mentioned case studies were obtained from different projects in cooperation with the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (LMBV) and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The project covering the 3D prediction of mineral deposits was partly funded by the ZIM program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) (3D advangeo: KF3236902KM3).
