Beak starts new research project about mineralogical fingerprints of aggregates

12th April 2013, Bergisch Gladbach (Germany)

Beak Consultants GmbH and the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) of Germany in Bergisch Gladbach/ Germany have agreed upon the contract for a new research project about mineralogical fingerprints to identify the origin of aggregates and the relationship between them and the parameters of building materials for road construction. Together with SAXOTEST Ing. GmbH from Dresden/ Germany, ALS Laboratories from Loughrea/ Irland and TU Bergakademie Freiberg/ Germany, Beak will execute this research project from March 2013 until August 2015 in order to improve quality assurance of natural aggregates and to increase the confidence in these building materials for their use in road constructions.

The goal of this research project is the derivation of the relationships between the origin of rocks, the rock-specific parameters and the road-construction-related performance parameters and the subsequent organisation of these data in a database with a user-friendly and intuitive interface.

In the frame of this research project, the feasibility of the methodology shall be demonstrated and a base of reliable data shall be obtained, which can later be completed gradually by the chosen work methodology.
