23-26 September 2010, XIX Congress of the Carpothian-Balkan Geological Association, Thessaloniki (Greece)


With more than 800 participants and a line-up of more than 300 top international speakers from geosciences, the 19th Congress of the CBGA took place in Thessaloniki / Greece from 23–26 September 2010. The primary goal of the Congress was the presentation of the most recent advances in Earth and Environmental Sciences, mainly in the Carpathian-Balkan Region and the surroundings, aiming at highlighting their impacts on natural resources, natural hazards, and environmental problems.

Mr Andreas Knobloch, from Beak Consultants GmbH , presented an overview of the raw material potential of Kosovo as well as an overview of the past (since 2003) and on-going geoscientific mapping projects executed by Beak at the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals (ICMM), Pristina / Kosovo. As a highlight, the methodology and results of mineral exploration targeting for Pb/Zn, Au and Cr in Kosovo using artificial neural network and GIS technologies with advangeo® were presented.
