3rd FAB/DERA Symposium on Raw Materials in cooperation with TU Bergakademie Freiberg and Beak Consultants GmbH
International raw material potential in the focus of industry and science

The German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) hosted the 3rd Symposium on Raw Materials together with the German Federation of International Mining and Mineral Resources (FAB), the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and the company Beak Consultants GmbH on 17th and 18th June 2014 in Freiberg/ Germany.

At the event in Freiberg, more than 60 participants from companies, academic institutions and federal and state ministries jointly discussed current issues in international raw material economy. The focus was mainly on the extraction, processing and trading of mineral resources and the current market trends.

Geographically, the focus of the conversation was on different countries in Africa, South America and southeastern Europe. The consideration of the raw material potential through reprocessing of mining dumps was one aspect of the discussion, as well as the possibilities for optimization of the extraction of raw materials while considering environmental aspects.

In addition, the developments in the mining sector in Saxony were presented. The range of topics discussed during the event was further completed by talks about education, training and research in the mining sector, including in the frame of international cooperation.
